Forgotten stories float to the surface

The Fateful Svensksund exhibition opened at Maritime Centre Vellamo on 9 June 2020. The exhibition will be open for several years. This major exhibition provides an unforeseen look at the most significant sea battle ever fought on the Baltic Sea outside Kotka in 1790 and the fortress city that was built after the battle. Telling this impressive story through the means of an exhibition has been prepared for for years, and now 3D modelling and the newest gaming technology could also be utilised for creating the exhibition.

The exhibition was created in cooperation between the Maritime Museum of Finland and the Kymenlaakso Museum, and it is a production of the National Museum of Finland and the City of Kotka. The exhibition has also received funding from the Alfred Kordelin Foundation, Jane and Aatos Erkkos Foundation, Google, Finnish Cultural Foundation and Kymenlaakso fund.

The exhibition design was created by Pentagon Design. Digital productions by Zoan Oy, Fantomatico Oy and Kunstventures Oy, among other operators.
